Hawkeyes NFL-Bound and some Big Ten news

2 03 2010
  • Here is an article from the Des Moines Register giving updates on four Hawkeyes looking to make noise in the NFL. Some interesting tidbits: LB Pat Angerer hopes to make it in the NFL, but he’s also open to fighting in the UFC; LB A.J. Edds wants to play for his home-town Indianapolis Colts (which I would fully support. I’m a big Colts fan, and Indy already has a bunch of former Hawkeyes on the roster and coaching staff); CB Amari Spievey says his year playing at Iowa Central Community College (in my hometown of Fort Dodge, IA) prepared him for the NFL; OG Dace Richardson is feeling healthy after coming back from ankle surgery late in the season.
  • Here is a round-up of the Big Ten’s performance at the NFL Combine. Iowa TE Tony Moeaki had a great combine, as the stats show.
  • On the Big Ten expansion front, here’s an article discussing some apprehension from Big Ten athletic directors. The article brings up something I like to mention in Big Ten discussions, that every Big Ten school got roughly $22 million from their revenue-sharing set-up. By comparison, the all-mighty SEC only gave out $11 million to each school. That kind of money could lure anyone to the Big Ten, including Texas or Notre Dame.
